Notes of hope and appreciation

OVER THE WEEKEND WE SENT OUT A COUPLE OF EMAILS CONTAINING NOTES OF HOPE, LOVE OF MUSIC, AND APPRECIATION FOR EVERYONE WHO MAKES THE PORTLAND PIANO INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY SO SPECIAL: OUR WONDERFUL AUDIENCE, SPONSORS, DONORS, PARTNERS, VENDORS. WITH THOSE WORDS WE INCLUDED A COUPLE OF VIDEOS FROM ANDERSON & ROE — ONES THAT INSPIRED AND COMFORTED US; WE HOPE THEY DID THE SAME FOR YOU, TOO. WE THOUGHT WE’D SHARE THOSE MESSAGES HERE.

SATURDAY

Subject: Keeping you close amid social distancing!

“Social distancing” has us thinking of you!

All of us at Portland Piano International, like you, have so been looking forward to this weekend’s planned concerts with Anderson & Roe. So, we are more than disappointed. We will have a good time together, though, when we get to hear them, re-scheduled, on August 15 & 16.

We wrote yesterday that to “celebrate the vitality and joy that has marked PPI for the past 42 years,” we would suggest that you might like to watch a video this afternoon from Greg and Liz, then have a cocktail or cookies & lemonade, as you like, to create a city-wide party for the piano! We have a hunch, though, that many of you may not have been able to wait (!), so we decided this morning to send another Anderson & Roe video, just for fun.

You, our wonderful audience, sponsors, donors, partners, vendors, all of you, are uppermost in our minds right now. We send you best wishes for making the best of this first difficult weekend.

“Life seems to go on without effort when I am filled with music.”
– George Eliot

SUNDAY

Subject: Music was my refuge . . .

The blithe thing that we all say to one another on first greeting, “How are you?”, takes on a bit of a different meaning this morning. We really do wonder, dear PPI family, how you are doing. We hope terrifically in this odd quiet of our “social distancing.”

This first weekend of our staying home has provided a lot of unexpected time for reflection and, we hope, listening to music. This afternoon, we would have been together at Anderson & Roe’s concert, but their programs got postponed to August 15 & 16.

Thus, we send another A & R video, just to cheer you on your way.

If we all listen at 4pm, it will continue the city-wide party for the piano. We will be with you in our hearts.

Wash your hands. Bump elbows. Look at your well-stocked larder. Most of all, though, know that we at PPI are thinking of you and the music all day long.

and curl my back to loneliness.”
