Tetiana Shafran's "crystalline playing" debuts at Portland Piano International for solo recitals in Portland & Beaverton, September 15 & 17
PORTLAND, OR — Rising star Tetiana Shafran, equally at home with solo and concerto repertoire, will perform a duo of recitals presented by Portland Piano International (PPI). Starting off PPI's 2024 / 2025 Main Recital Series season, Shafran will perform on September 15 at Portland State University's Lincoln Performance Hall, followed by a recital at the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton on September 17.
Shafran has been taking the world by storm with her "rare combination of clarity and power" (AllMusic Guide) and her "poignant, technically precise, and… luminous" musicianship (Fanfare). The young Ukrainian pianist is no stranger to some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Shenzhen Grand Theatre, Lindeman Hall, and Palau de la Musica. She has won over 20 international piano competitions, including the Gold Medal of the famed Olga Kern International Piano Competition and First Prize at the Concours International de Piano France-Amériques in Paris, France, both in 2019. Most recently, she released her self-titled debut album of mesmerizing works by Chopin, Ravel, and Tchaikovsky on the Steinway & Sons label.
PPI is proud to continue its four decades-and-counting legacy of producing solo recitals by the world's best pianists. Due to the pandemic and political challenges, it has taken four years to bring Shafran to Portland. PPI is thrilled to have her open the season finally.

PORTLAND PIANO INTERNATIONAL has presented more than 220 artists in recital and through outreach activities. Some of the greatest pianists in the world of music have played for Portland audiences because of this organization. While pianists have many opportunities to play the concerto repertoire, this is one of only a handful of recital series that remains devoted to the solo piano recital. Portland Piano International is a vital part of Portland's quality cultural life and it has consistently garnered praise from both the local and national media, heralded a "consistently brilliant Piano Recital Series" (Willamette Week) and "one of this city's musical treasures" (The Oregonian).
