Portland Piano International announces spring gala on April 1 in Portland's Pearl District
THE PIANO FOOLS' DAY GALA — A MADCAP EVENING OF MUSIC, LAUGHTER, AND COMMUNITY — WILL BE HELD IN THE MAGNIFICENT CASTAWAY PORTLAND.
PORTLAND, OR – Portland Piano International (PPI) will present its spring gala to benefit its artistic and education initiatives on Saturday, April 1, at 5:30 PM, at Castaway Portland in the city's vibrant Pearl District. Christened the Piano Fools' Day Gala, this critical fundraising event will feature a performance from the dynamic piano duo Anderson & Roe — as well as hilarious piano-related hijinks throughout the evening.
Now in its 44th season, PPI — "one of this city's musical treasures" (The Oregonian) — has presented more than 180 artists in recital and through outreach activities across the greater Portland area. In addition to its critically acclaimed SOLO Piano Series, which features six spectacular artists in back-to-back recitals at Portland State University, PPI fulfills its mission to foster musicianship and an appreciation for solo piano music through its many artistic and education enterprises, including:
Rising Stars program for early-career artists
Tholen Fellowships, immersive two-year fellowships available to local piano teachers
Beyond the Score master classes led by celebrated pianists — always free and open to the public
and the biennial Piano Concerto Competition for high-school pianists, produced in partnership with the Portland Youth Philharmonic
A favorite of PPI audiences, Anderson & Roe — hailed as "the most dynamic duo of this generation" (San Francisco Classical Voice) — has opened the doors to classical music for audiences across the globe with their high-octane performances, engaging original compositions, and notorious music videos. Their five critically acclaimed albums have spent dozens of weeks at the top of the Billboard Classical charts, while their Emmy-nominated, self-produced music videos have been viewed by millions on YouTube and at international film festivals.
The Piano Fools' Day Gala will begin at 5:30 PM with a cocktail hour featuring gourmet hors d'oeuvres, followed by an elegant dinner catered by Artemis Foods and a 30-minute performance from Anderson & Roe.
Tickets for the event start at $250 per person; tables of eight start at $2,000. Premium seating with an intimate view of the piano keyboards is also available.

PORTLAND PIANO INTERNATIONAL has presented more than 180 artists in recital and through outreach activities. Some of the greatest pianists in the world of music have played for Portland audiences because of this organization. While pianists have many opportunities to play the concerto repertoire, this is one of only a handful of recital series that remains devoted to the solo piano recital. Portland Piano International is a vital part of Portland’s quality cultural life and it has consistently garnered praise from both the local and national media, heralded a “consistently brilliant Piano Recital Series” (Willamette Week) and “one of this city’s musical treasures” (The Oregonian).
