Will PPI have a solo season next year? We really want to.

Portland

FOR 43 YEARS, PORTLAND PIANO INTERNATIONAL, A FAMILY, REALLY, OF MUSIC LOVERS WHO TOGETHER HAVE BROUGHT THE WORLD’S MOST AMAZING SOLO PIANISTS TO PORTLAND FOR INTIMATE, THRILLING RECITALS, HAS PRESENTED THESE EXCEPTIONAL PROGRAMS IN LINCOLN PERFORMANCE HALL, AND OCCASIONALLY OTHER FINE VENUES, TO LIVE AUDIENCES. AS IS TRUE FOR ALL PERFORMING ARTS PRESENTERS IN THESE CHALLENGING TIMES, IT IS UNCLEAR TO US WHETHER WE WILL BE ABLE TO PRESENT OUR NORMAL LIVE CONCERTS BEGINNING THIS FALL, BUT WE SURELY WANT TO!

Your safety and happiness with the concerts are our primary concerns.

We will do all in our power to get it just right, but remain flexible with our options.

We must be guided by the expertise of others.

Our venue is located on the campus of Portland State University and its administration will tell us whether it can be considered safe to invite audiences to Lincoln Hall. That administration, of course, is counseled by Oregon’s Governor and she, in turn, heeds the advice of medical and public health officials.

Our artists come from far away.

For the 2020-21 season, we have invited artists from Russia, Canada, France, New York, and Texas. Their safety in traveling also weighs on our minds.

In case we are not able to present live concerts . . .

Yes, we are looking into virtual/live-stream options. We invite your comments about this option at any time. Just call executive director Bill Crane at 503-544-2455. Our first experiment in the digital realm will be a mini-extravaganza with Anderson & Roe on August 15 & 16. We will learn much then about how to proceed. We will send you details about Anderson & Roe very soon.

You have invested in PPI for years. We are honored to steward your money well.

Your ticket purchases, subscriptions, and generous contributions to PPI’s mission have made miracles possible in the past and will in the future. No matter what happens with our recitals, master classes, teacher fellowships, young artists, and other programs, we will absolutely do the right thing by you if you would like to amend your financial investment in PPI. We hope that refunds will not become necessary, but will offer them, no questions asked, if unfortunate circumstances demand that.

How will I know what the plans are for the recitals in 2020-21, opening in October?

By about mid-August, we will have to make the call on whether we will begin with the opening concerts planned with Vladimir Feltsman on October 3 & 4. We will keep very up-to-date notices on our web-page, portlandpiano.org. You can call executive director Bill Crane at 503-544-2455 any time to learn the latest.

So, I should subscribe and contribute this year anyway?

In trying times like these, all of us are trying to make our very best philanthropic decisions, along with our choices about performing arts opportunities. Often, we feel pulled in many directions, particularly amid much anxiety. Portland Piano International is very much an association of people who put together their money (tickets/subscriptions/contributions), time (volunteers/ushers/board members), and passion (delighted audience members/devoted piano teachers and students) to keep a vital musical tradition alive and vigorous in Portland. We invite your continued generous involvement with PPI this year (subscriptions and contributions) as we sort out, together, what the future will be. Thank you for your evident belief in PPI.
