3 of Anderson & Roe’s best performances: part 2
OUR MOST RECENT BLOG INCLUDED THREE OF OUR FAVORITE PERFORMANCES BY ANDERSON & ROE, THE DYNAMIC PIANO DUO THAT WILL BE PERFORMING IN OUR SOLO SERIES ON MAR 14 / 15.
Since forming their dynamic musical partnership in 2002 as students at The Juilliard School, Anderson & Roe have toured extensively worldwide as recitalists and orchestral soloists; appeared on NPR, MTV, PBS, and the BBC; presented at numerous international leader symposiums; and served as hosts for the medici.tv webcast of a recent Cliburn competition.
Highlights of their 2019/20 season include performances throughout North America, Europe, and Asia; a stint as guest hosts of NPR’s From The Top; the release of nearly a dozen new music videos; and a multi-week residency at the Tippet Rise Art Center as recitalists, recording artists, and filmmakers.
The duo comes to Portland in March for two exhilarating concerts at Lincoln Hall. These are three more of our favorite performances by Anderson & Roe on their Youtube channel.
1 . Lullaby. Brahms’ Lullaby is iconic — every classical music fan has heard it. It’s also one of the most beloved lullabies around the world! Anderson & Roe’s arrangement aims to capture the shift from wakefulness to dreamland, the repeating patterns evoking the oscillations of mobile over an infant’s crib. During their performance in March, Anderson & Roe will perform Brahms live!
2 . Bohemian Rhapsody. In creating this two-piano arrangement, Anderson & Roe wanted to reclaim the classical roots of the song and honor its operatic spirit by appropriating the styles of Wagner, Liszt, and 18th-century opera buffa. As classical pianists, composers, and filmmakers, they found it satisfying to delve into the song's classical origins and send the love back to Freddie. They also rock out in this fun video!
3 . Shake It Off. Only the best can cover the reigning queen of pop music and make it sound this good! It’s no wonder that these two have appeared on NPR and MTV, recorded Billboard chart-topping albums, toured worldwide as recitalists and orchestral soloists, and received Emmy nominations for these videos! There’s nothing like shaking it off with a Steinway!
