The quiet maverick of piano, Alexander Korsantia, to debut at Portland Piano International

THE QUIET MAVERICK OF PIANO, ALEXANDER KORSANTIA, TO DEBUT AT PORTLAND PIANO INTERNATIONAL

PORTLAND, OR – Portland Piano International (PPI) is proud to announce the highly anticipated debut of Alexander Korsantia, the piano world's "quiet maverick" as dubbed by the Daily Telegraph. The concerts will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2023, and Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 4:00 PM in Lincoln Hall at Portland State University.

Korsantia's programs contrast the graceful pianism of Classical Vienna with the ravishing bravura of one of Stravinsky's most groundbreaking ballets. The Saturday program will feature Schubert's Sonata in G Major and Stravinsky's Petrushka, presented for our audiences with the pianist's own breathtakingly virtuosic transcription.

On Sunday, June 4, Korsantia will perform Beethoven's early Sonata in E-flat Major, which finds the composer already pushing against the boundaries of Classical style. The concert will conclude with The Rite of Spring, in which the solo piano thrillingly renders Stravinsky's menagerie of orchestral colors in Korsantia's own transcription.

Alexander Korsantia's extraordinary talent has earned him international acclaim and recognition from music critics worldwide. Praised for the clarity of his technique, richly varied tone, and dynamic phrasing, Korsantia is a First Prize/Gold Medal winner at the Artur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition and a First Prize winner at the Sydney International Piano Competition. He is a professor of piano at Boston’s prestigious New England Conservatory.

In recent seasons, Korsantia has performed with renowned conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Gianandrea Noseda, Valery Gergiev, and Paavo Järvi. He has collaborated with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, Kirov Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, and Cincinnati Symphony.

Korsantia's appearance in Portland will be a unique opportunity for music lovers to experience his unmatched talent and musicality.

PORTLAND PIANO INTERNATIONAL has presented more than 220 artists in recital and through outreach activities. Some of the greatest pianists in the world of music have played for Portland audiences because of this organization. While pianists have many opportunities to play the concerto repertoire, this is one of only a handful of recital series that remains devoted to the solo piano recital. Portland Piano International is a vital part of Portland’s quality cultural life and it has consistently garnered praise from both the local and national media, heralded a “consistently brilliant Piano Recital Series” (Willamette Week) and “one of this city’s musical treasures” (The Oregonian).
