Portland Piano International announces 2022 / 2023 season featuring six world-class pianists, curated by Vladimir Feltsman

PORTLAND, OR – Portland Piano International announces its 2022 / 2023 SOLO Piano Series, curated by the dynamic Russian-American pianist and educator Vladimir Feltsman. Featuring 18 recitals and two master classes at venues across Portland and Beaverton, PPI's new season promises inspiring performances of treasured works and adventuresome new music.

SOLO PIANO SERIES

PPI's SOLO Piano Series returns to Lincoln Performance Hall at Portland State University, presenting six world-class pianists in back-to-back recitals.

  • Vladimir Feltsman (October 7 & 8)

  • Ilya Yakushev (December 3 & 4)*

  • Ilya Rashkovskiy (January 21 & 22)*

  • Daria Rabotkina (March 25 & 26)*

  • Roman Rabinovich (May 6 & 7)

  • Alexander Korsantia (June 3 & 4)*

* Denotes PPI debut

These recitals offer Portland audiences the rare opportunity to hear the finest pianists of today — and the emerging stars of tomorrow — perform beloved works, hidden gems, and new music in one of the best venues in the city.

RISING STARS RECITALS

Continuing PPI's long tradition of presenting many of the best of the rising generation of concert pianists, this year's Rising Stars Recitals will introduce the astonishing Julian Trevelyan, Yang Gao, and Kenny Broberg to Portland audiences and communities throughout Oregon. More information about this series will be announced at a later date.

PPI AT THE RESER

PPI also returns to the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton for a second season of one-hour recitals. Tailored specifically for busy folks on the go, these 6 PM recitals are the perfect preview to each pianist's full-length recitals in Portland.

In addition to thrilling performances, this gives Beaverton music lovers the chance to reconnect with friends, meet others inspired by piano music, and enjoy drinks and snacks while taking in the spectacular views from The Reser’s splendid lobby.

  • Vladimir Feltsman (October 6, 2022)

  • Ilya Rashkovskiy (January 19, 2023)

  • Daria Rabotkina (March 23, 2023)

BEYOND THE SCORE

And in two Beyond the Score sessions, Vladimir Feltsman (October 7) and Ilya Rashkovskiy (January 20) will give master classes at Portland Piano Company. In these free sessions, pianists and concertgoers alike can gain a deeper understanding of the art of piano performance and gather insights from each recitalist about the traditions they carry, honed from decades of study and performance.

FELTSMAN ON CURATING THE NEW SEASON

"When I was originally asked to curate this season for PPI [for the canceled 2020 / 2021 season], I agreed immediately because I saw this as an opportunity to introduce a new generation of pianists to a discriminating and supportive audience," said Feltsman. "Two years after their initial acquaintance with PPI, they are so excited to be coming finally to Portland.

"I'm very proud to have been asked to play this role with this fine organization, and I sincerely hope that my choices for the 2022/2023 season will bring us all delight, encouragement, and much needed reassurance in uncharted times."

PORTLAND PIANO INTERNATIONAL has presented more than 180 artists in recital and through outreach activities. Some of the greatest pianists in the world of music have played for Portland audiences because of this organization. While pianists have many opportunities to play the concerto repertoire, this is one of only a handful of recital series that remains devoted to the solo piano recital. Portland Piano International is a vital part of Portland’s quality cultural life and it has consistently garnered praise from both the local and national media, heralded a “consistently brilliant Piano Recital Series” (Willamette Week) and “one of this city’s musical treasures” (The Oregonian).
