This weekend, MAR 16 / 17, we are hosting renowned British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor for our next SOLO series performance.
In 2011 Benjamin signed to Decca Classics, becoming the youngest British musician in almost 60 years to sign with the label. His debut album, Chopin, Liszt & Ravel, won two awards: Jeune Talent Award from Diapason d’Or and the Instrumental Award from Gramophone. It also received many accolades, including this from The Times:
“Grosvenor, you can tell, is a Romantic pianist, almost from another age. He doesn’t deconstruct, or stand at a distance. He jumps inside the music’s soul.”
In the video above, Benjamin plays Chopin's Nocturne No. 5 in F sharp, Op. 15, No. 2, from his debut album. The piece was originally published in January 1834, and is quite technically challenging with a range of emotions being expressed on the keyboard.
Watch the video above to see the electrifying mastery and insightful interpretations Benjamin continues to perform for audiences across the globe.
