This SUNDAY / FEB 24, our partnership with Chamber Music Northwest will bring together two great pianists, Shai Wosner and Orion Weiss, for a special duo concert at the beautiful Congregation Beth Israel. These powerhouse performers have an amazing repertoire set for the afternoon, which includes:
DAVID LANG Gravity (2005)
SCHUBERT Sonata in C Major for Piano, Four Hands, D. 812
DAVID LANG After Gravity (2005)
BRAHMS Sonata for Two Pianos, Op. 34b
While Brahms and Schubert might be masters, composer David Lang is a modern-day legend. The Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award-winning composer has created many magnificent pieces that have been played all over the globe and heard by thousands, if not more. He is the co-founder of Bang on a Can, as well as the 2013-2014 Composer-in-Residence for Carnegie Hall. Plus, he is part of the 125 Commissions Project, in which at least 125 new works will be commissioned from leading composers between the 2015 and 2020 seasons for Carnegie Hall.
According to his website, David Lang describes the two works to be performed by Wosner and Weiss at our upcoming concert.
“With ‘Gravity’ I had the image in my head of how to make a kind of music that would always be falling. . . In my piece ‘After Gravity’ I wanted to make something floating, something weightless, something airier than ‘Gravity’ but still structured in such a way that would keep the music from landing anywhere, or at least put the landing off as long as I could.”
