British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor is a connoisseur of musical styles. He likes “too much music”, as he puts it, to focus on one particular style. This expanse of curiosity paid off in Grosvenor’s latest album, Homages.
In this album, Grosvenor explores hidden connections between works written centuries apart, as great composers pay tribute — or homage — to their predecessors. Speaking in the interview above, the Briton talks about the decision-making process for an album.
The recording has received many accolades. Here is just one:
“Grosvenor is acclaimed as one of the best in a generation of young pianists that includes Yuja Wang and Daniil Trifonov. This pianist has tremendous talent. With the Mendelssohn Preludes and Fugues, his ability to separate voices in the fugues is magical.” - American Record Guide, January/February 2017
