We love celebrating the success of our artists we present in concert each season and this December we have an extraordinary young pianist: Rachel Cheung - winner of the Audience Award and finalist at the 15th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. She has quickly risen to the top of the music industry's mind when thinking about who's the "next big thing". So we are naturally thrilled to showcase her talent in Portland, DEC 1 / 2, 2018 where she plays the beloved Chopin Preludes, but also lesser-known works like Janacek's In the Mists. Explore her exuberant craft below with our curated videos from the Cliburn Competition.
Rachel Cheung performed in the Cliburn's final round (2017) with Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major Op. 58.
In the Cliburn's semifinal round, Rachel performed Schumann's Kreisleriana Op. 16 and Prokofiev's Sonata No. 6 in A Major, Op. 82. Watch the full hour-long video.
Rachel also played Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466 in the semifinal round with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Nicholas McGegan.
