We're proud to announce the second annual Piano Day in Portland where we're celebrating our beloved instrument! On the 88th day of the year, perform several minutes of your favorite repertoire at venues across the city. Choose from the following:
- Portland City Hall
- Washington Park MAX Station
- OHSU (Oregon Health & Science University)
- Legacy Emanuel Hospital
- PeaceHealth Hospital
When you sign up, you'll need to find sponsors to support you. All proceeds help Portland Piano deliver excellent programming you love throughout the year. You can help us do that by signing up for Piano Day!
There are two steps to signing up, so please follow closely.
1. Select your venue and number of minutes you will play.
b. Click on the name of the location from the tabs at the top
c. Select the hour during which you want to play by clicking on the blue button, the click “Submit and Sign Up” at the bottom
d. On the next screen, select the number of 5-minute increments that you will fill with piano music! (For instance, to play 10 minutes, select “2” as your quantity.)
e. Include your name and email, then click “Sign Up Now” at the bottom
You will receive an email confirmation that will include information on how to change your sign-up later if necessary.
2. Set up your fundraising page.
a. Go to https://www.classy.org/campaign/piano-day-2018/c165842 and click on “Become a Fundraiser”
b. Select “As an Individual” unless you are going to be fundraising with a group of people.
c. Set your fundraising goal (please try at least $10 per minute of playing time as your goal). If you meet your goal, you can always increase it later.
d. Add a photo – this is important as folks need to know it’s you!
e. Click “okay” to the pop ups, then click “Manage” at the top right.
f. You’ll be asked to update your story – please make it your own or at least update the location and time you’ll be playing!
g. From the “Manage” section, you can use some email templates to send to your friends and family, link your Facebook page, track and thank your donors, etc. So spread the word!
How to Fundraise
Record a short video on your phone and/or write a short blurb. Explain to your friends and family what you’re doing and why you need them to give money. You might say something like this:
Hi, I’m playing in Piano Day this year and can’t wait to perform at ____________(venue name). For those who don’t know, Piano Day is internationally recognized as the 88th day of the year (since there’s 88 keys on the piano). This year it’s on Thursday, March 29th.
There will be five venues featuring pianists from all around Portland. I’m one of the pianists and will be performing _____________(state name of piece or pieces).
Portland Piano International has organized Piano Day and to play I need to raise money that goes completely to support this nonprofit.
Help me reach my goal of _____________ (name dollar amount). Give online at this link ___________(paste link in description box on social media).
I’ll be sending you updates as time goes on. Thanks so much for your support!
Tell Your Friends and Family
Once you have recorded your video and/or created a similar message as a Facebook post, share it with everyone! Post it to your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, send emails with the same message, and share it with as many people as possible to help you raise money for this great cause!
Remember to include the direct link to your fundraising page on classy.org where your friends/family can donate.
Note: Tips for recording a good video!
If you record a video to help you raise money for Piano Day, we suggest you follow these steps:
- Be enthusiastic about playing for Piano Day.
- Use good lighting. Filming by a window will make you appear better in the video (and in photos, too).
