The Competition is a new collaboration between Portland Piano International / SOLO and Portland Youth Philharmonic! For the last 90+ years PYP has held a biennial Piano Concerto Competition with the prize of performing with Portland Youth Philharmonic. Going forward, Portland Piano International / SOLO will be presenting the biennial Piano Concerto Competition that selects the soloists for upcoming Portland Youth Philharmonic performances.

The Finals of the Competition was a public, ticketed event held at Lincoln Performance Hall at Portland State University on January 25, 2019. The jury included: Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Stanislav Ioudenitch, Head of Piano at UCLA Inna Faliks, and Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Alexander Kobrin.

Two prizes will be awarded:

First Prize

o   Performance of a full concerto with the Portland Youth Philharmonic at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall during the 2019 / 2020 season 

o   Professional photo shoot prior to the performance (New! Courtesy of Portland Youth Philharmonic)

o   A $1,000 scholarship toward future study (New! Courtesy of Portland Piano International)

o   Two SOLO Piano Series subscriptions for 2019 / 2020 (New! Courtesy of Portland Piano International)

Second Prize

o   Performance of a movement of a concerto with PYP’s Portland Youth Conservatory Orchestra during the 2019 / 2020 season

o   A $500 scholarship toward future study (New! Courtesy of Portland Piano International)

o   Two SOLO Piano Series subscriptions for 2019 / 2020 (New! Courtesy of Portland Piano International)
