Described as "magnetic, his high-ranging tenor never losing depth or substance" (Boston Herald), Carl Halvorson also lends his time and talent as an esteemed professor. Mr. Halvorson is part of our annual A Twilight Soirée: Le Cirque au Chateau on SAT / SEP 14 as the ringmaster/emcee.
The special night will feature aerial artists, fire dancers, stilt walkers, and young pianist Gabriele Strata. It all takes place at Duckridge Farms, the beautiful home of Jeffrey Miller and Casselle Latourette. Duckridge Farms features a beautiful French-inspired chateau surrounded by charming vistas and garden “rooms”.
Since his auspicious debut under the sponsorship of Young Concerts Artists, Mr. Halvorson has given over 80 solo recitals in America and in Europe. He has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall (Songmaker’s Almanac), the Concertgebouw, New York’s Tisch Center for the Arts at the 92nd Street Y, the National Gallery in Washington D.C., and the Gold Medal Artist Series at Ambassador Hall in Los Angeles.
On opera stages, he has performed with Minnesota Opera, Ft. Worth Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, among others. In 2009, Mr. Halvorson made his company debut with Portland Opera and has since performed numerous roles for the company including The Emperor (Turandot), Torquemada (L’Heure Espagnole), and Don Curzio (Le Nozze di Figaro).
With a concert repertoire that extends from Haydn and Mozart to Britten and Honegger, Mr. Halvorson is in high demand on the concert stage. The tenor has performed with many major orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Oregon Symphony, and more.
Following training at Yale College and the Juilliard School, he won numerous competitions and has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Bagby and Sullivan Foundations. He also has recorded for BMG Classics, Music Masters, Albany Records, American Heritage, and Newport Classic Recordings.
