Commissioning Project

What is the Commissioning Project?

Portland Piano International is focusing on the power of new works by helping build the solo piano repertoire for the 21st century and beyond. Our unique Commissioning Project will create twelve (12!) new works for solo piano starting in the fall of 2015 and finishing in the spring of 2018.

Each new piece must have the following criteria: each must 'bridge' other pieces that are part of the usual piano repertoire, each must be 5 - 10 minutes in length, and each must be for solo (unprepared) piano.

Oregon composers will work closely with emerging professional pianists from our Rising Stars to prepare the pieces. The Rising Stars will perform the new pieces in free, interactive concerts in Portland and around Oregon.

The new pieces will also be professionally recorded and videotaped at Westwind Farm Studio. The resulting audio, video and sheet music will become available via this site starting in 2017.
